Unleash the Potential:

Help make the dream of having a dog park in Sturgis possible while revitalizing Old Depot Park at the same time! If successful, every dollar you donate will be matched by the MEDC / MSHDA to help make Sturgis a community of choice. The Sturgis Dog Park Committee, in partnership with the City of Sturgis, invites you to participate in this wonderful effort by donating today. Old Depot Park needs a face lift and our city needs a dog park. With your help, we can achieve both!

Dog Park Features:

  • Approximate Size: 22,730 sq. ft.
  • Separate areas for small dogs / large dogs encompassed by a vinyl coated chain link fence with separate gates.
  • Park benches (7) placed throughout the park, transforming the space into a community gathering place.
  • Convenient watering and waste stations.
  • Concrete and asphalt repairs to park entrance drives at Old Depot Park.

The Doggone Details:

Cost EstimatesThe estimated total cost of the project is nearly $39,000. This includes significant work to infrastructure in Old Depot Park, as well as the cost for the Bark Park amenities. The bulk of Bark Park expenses come from the fencing needed to keep dogs safe ($20,000) but the Dog Park Committee also thought of other neat features that will make the park more convenient for all users. Watering stations with running water and waste stations will be located in both the small dog and large dog sections. In order to accomplish this, the City needs to run water to each station. The total cost of two water and two waste stations is estimated to be $8,000. Additionally, for anyone that has visited Old Depot Park lately, you know that the entrances are in pretty rough shape! This project includes $3,000 to repair the asphalt and cement at each entrance, and an additional $3,000 to remove the old cement gazebo base that has turned into an eyesore for our community. Other expenses include a small administrative fee to Patronicity for hosting the campaign and merchandise to use as incentives for giving.

Fundraising Plan– The City received a $15,000 grant from the Sturgis Area Community Foundation, leaving $24,000 to be raised from this campaign. Since the MEDC / MSHDA will match your donation dollar for dollar, we only need to raise $12,000 from the Sturgis community to make this happen!

SustainabilityThe City will contribute $15,000 to create a special endowment fund for future BarkPark funding needs. This means your donation will not only ensure the creation of the Bark Park, it will also ensure it lasts for generations to come.

A Smooch for a Pooch:

This dog park will add value to the Sturgis community! Here are just a few reasons why:

  • Dog parks improve the quality of life in a community, providing opportunities for residents to come together and unite over a common love, our pets!
  • Dog parks provide a place for dogs to socialize with other dogs off their leashes, without offending non-dog lovers.
  • Dog parks provide an opportunity for dogs, and people, to get needed exercise and burn off energy.
