Join us in preserving the History of Frankfort!

The City of Frankfort has created a self-guided walking route through the town and along the harbor.  Money is being raised for interpretive signage along the path to tell the story of Frankfort.

The Project

Stories of Town and Harbor began In the summer of 2014 when a group of Frankfort area citizens got together and began collecting stories and reminiscences from legendary area personalities. The project was inspired by the belief that all people are naturally inquisitive about the nature and origins of their surroundings. This 1.5 mile walking path will lead to nine historically significant locations, each portraying era or institution that impacted Frankfort's history and development. Walkers along the path can reference a companion website, FrankfortHistory.org.  Along with the website, interpretative signage will transform a walk through Frankfort into a journey through its history.

Why it Matters

Stories of Town and Harbor is the voice of Frankfort and the case for preserving its history.  The community of Frankfort parallels the larger changes in our nation's history in the areas of  transportation, agriculture and resort culture. The comprehensive research involved in this project envisions an archival plan, as well as dedicated time to effectively manage and grow a program to support interpretive services and preserve historic sites including the North Pier Lighthouse.
