Our First Goal Has Been Met. You Can Invest to Make the Playground Even Better!

We are blown away by the community support meeting the request in less than one week.  If you haven't donated, you can support this project. Several additional elements to the playground can be added with continuing donations.  Your support beyond our goal will be used to make this playground even more fun for our kids.

2 Million Visitors and No Place to Play?

Holland State Park is one of the most beautiful locations in all of West Michigan. Nearly 2 million visitors come to the park on a yearly basis from all over the world. Yet, one yet element is missing - a place for children to play.

The only location for organized play is a small swing set badly showing its age. Kids visiting the park have no place to run and jump and enjoy each other.  A team from Carter's Kids, Lake Michigan Credit Union, Lakeshore Advantage, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and one grandma on a mission have come together to provide a great place for kids and the whole family to play.

Grandma to the Rescue!

Sally Starr, a local Holland resident, retired preschool teacher and a grandmother, has long enjoyed the splendor of the beach. Yet, she longed for a play structure that she knew would be well utilized by the hundreds of children who come to the beach on a daily basis.

She contacted the team at Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) to make the case for an investment in the outdated swing set and create a formal playground.  She knew the credit union had taken on several public space revitalization projects due to their partnership with TV personality Carter Oosterhouse's non-profit charity Carter's Kids.

The team at LMCU has agreed to pay for half of the cost of the project if grandma Sally can raise the other half and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has agreed to take on the upkeep.  We are so close to making Sally's dream a reality.

Build Date is Set

The Carter's Kids team is ready to start building beginning on August 8. This is an all or nothing campaign.  If we don't raise the match the playground concepts on this page won't become a reality.

The playscape will include the following elements:

  • 3 slides
  • Crawling tube
  • 2 sets of monkey bars
  • 4 climbers
  • 2 spinners

With the generous support of Lake Michigan Credit Union and matching funds from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, we are seeking to raise an additional $17,000. IF we meet our goal the state will match what we raise, essentially DOUBLING YOUR DONATION!

Payments can be made via checks or credit cards.  Checks should be made Carter's Kids and can be dropped off at any Lake Michigan Credit location or mailed to:
