Overview
The Black Wall Street Forward initiative is modeled on the pillars that made Durham's original Black Wall
Street successful, and aims to continue the legacy of this vibrant work by supporting and catalyzing
local leaders, Black business owners, and champions. The transformative pilot is engaging communities
throughout the state of North Carolina in a cohort-based learning journey to explore the past and
present of Black entrepreneurship in those communities and to take collaborative action to build a
better collective future. Through the generous support of the Truist Foundation, and headquartered at
Durham's Provident1898, Forward Cities is piloting the program in the following communities: Durham,
Charlotte, Fayetteville, Raleigh and Winston-Salem.
As a part of the initiative, stewardship councils in each community are collaboratively designing
innovative ideas that will help bring their vision of a reimagined Black Wall Street to life in each
city. Each of these creative projects is designed to leverage the tremendous assets of the Black
community and allies to catalyze a thriving Black business culture. When Black businesses succeed, the
community succeeds and the local economy grows - which benefits all.
Forward Cities has jumpstarted each project with a seed fund and now local leaders are inviting you to
join the effort. Your donation today is an invaluable investment that will support the reimagination of
Black Wall Street and generational wealth in your community.
